Bazartete 15 December 2022, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry (MALFF), General Directorate of Forests, Coffee, and Industrial Plants,through the project “Securing the long-term conservation of Timor-Leste’s biodiversity and ecosystem services through the establishment of a functioning national protected area system and the improvement of natural resource management in priority catchment corridors (TLSNAP)”. In collaboration with the and Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MTE) and Conservation International Timor-Leste (CI-TL) held the launching ceremony of Pillar Installation for Mount Kutulau Protected Area.
Mount Kutulau will have 395 posts installed, with a width of 4973 hectares and a distance of 50 kilometers. Mount Kutulau is part of five sucos: Leorema, Fahilebo, Mota Ulun, Ulmera, and Fatumasi, Post Administrative of Bazartete, Municipality of Liquica. The objective of the pillar installation is to conserve and preserve the natural and cultural resources to ensure the sustainable management of protected areas in the future.
The project was funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and in collaboration closely with the MALFF and MTE which focus on the Comoro water catchment area that consisted of four sucos and protected area of Mount Kutulau that consisted of five sucos. Also, for the Irabere water catchment area consisted of six sucos and protected area of Mount Legumau consisted of ten sucos.
The pillar installation activity is being carried out in close collaboration with the Government of Timor-Leste via the MALFF, MTE, the Secretary of State for Land and Property, the Ministry of Justice, Local Authority, and the local community.
